| MELBOURNE PRIZE FOR MUSIC 2010 With a prize pool over $100,000, the Melbourne Prize for Music 2010 and awards is one of Australia’s most valuable music prizes. Open to Victorian musicians, performers and composers, across all music genres, the aim of the prize is to provide opportunities for Victorian musicians and to recognise and reward excellence and talent. ![]() | AUSTRALIAN BRANDENBURG ORCHESTRA The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, led by the charismatic Paul Dyer, celebrates music of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries with excellence, flair and joy. The Orchestra consists of leading specialists from all around Australia, who perform using original edition scores and instruments of the period (which are very different in sound and style from their modern equivalents). Together with the vibrant energy of the Brandenburg musicians, all combine to breathe fresh life and colour into baroque and classical favourites as well as seldom heard masterpieces. The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra presents subscription concerts at the Melbourne Recital Centre and City Recital Hall, Sydney, as well as touring nationally to perform in state capitals and regional centres. They have released 13 CDs with ABC Classics, four of which have won ARIA Awards for Best Classical Recording. The Orchestra’s name plays tribute to the Brandenburg concertos of JS Bach, whose musical genius is central to the history of western music. |
